Music from 2019

Mee And Mrs Robinson

Dursley-based musicians Charlie Mee and Jo Robinson first started playing together as a duo in late 2016, but were soon joined by bassist Dave Leveridge and drummer Damo Connop.

Backed by this formidably funky rhythm section, the 4-piece naturally gravitated towards the more upbeat and groovy end of the soul spectrum, specialising in vintage songs from the golden era of the Motown, Stax and Atlantic record labels, including artists such as Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett and the Temptations, with the odd pop gem from other decades thrown in.

With guitar, bass, drums and three-part harmonies, their tight, punchy arrangements aim to lift the spirits and move the feet, and the band have gained a reputation for winning over and bringing to life the most stubborn of crowds. With regular repeat bookings at the Old Spot in Dursley and the Crown in Uley, the band have also been warmly welcomed at venues in Bristol and elsewhere, as well as going down a storm at parties and festivals across the area.

Nasty Habits

Nasty Habits the South West’s number one rock, funk, blues band.

Nasty Habits were formed in August 2013 with a line-up of vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass and drums. The original concept of the band was to play covers recorded by other artists, but choose material that was non mainstream and mainstream. However, it was important to us to make sure that the songs were upbeat and easy to dance to. With that in mind our repertoire is probably best described as “funky blues” but with a rock influence.

The band consists of five well travelled, highly experienced musicians – Nigel Lloyd (Vocals), Mike Knight (Guitar), Tim Bridges (Bass), Steve Sauders (Keyboards) and Mike Miller (Drums).

Further information on the band and each of its members can be found at www.nastyhabits.org.

The Stangs

The Stangs are an up-and-coming rhythm and blues band, creating a swarm of intrigue with their unique style and sound.

Hailing from Pembrokeshire, West Wales, the three members – Graeme Heath (20), Josh Lomas (20), and Glenn Alcock (19) – found kindred spirits when the group formed in 2015.

With both their sound and style taking obvious influence from their shared adoration of the 1960’s, the boys have managed to put a compelling originality into the music that has frequented our airwaves since The Beatles monopolized the Cavern.

Through almost obsessive listening, the boys have amassed a wealth of material – including both break-neck-rock-and-roll tunes, such as ‘The Hippy Hippy Shake’ and ‘Johnny B Goode’, but also lesser known gems, such as ‘You Better Move On’ and ‘I’m A Hog For You Baby’.

In October 2015 the lads released their debut EP, ‘Drumroll, Please’ – containing two originals, (both of which are available on Spotify and iTunes), and two covers.
